August 14th Miyajima Fireworks!!!!

Miyajima Fireworks Display

Hiroshima's most well known fireworks festival. 4000 fireworks explode over the sea silhouetting Itsukushima Shrine's O-Torii.

Worth seeing but expect huge crowds (200,000 people showed up last year) and a fight for the prime viewing spots.

If you want to enjoy the show from the water a place on one of the Seto Nai-kai Kisen ferries will cost you ¥7500 for adults, ¥6500 for kids between 6 and 11 years old, and ¥3000 for kids between 3 and 6 years old (includes a bento box lunch, a beer or soft drink). Ferries hold 100 passengers and depart 18:00, 18:10, 18:20, 18:30. Call 082-545-5501 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 082-545-5501 end_of_the_skype_highlighting or check the Japanese homepage here for details.

A more upscale dining experience is proved on the Ginga cruise. Choose between the ¥20,000 "Royal Room" and ¥15,000 "Main Dining" courses. The ship departs Hiroshima Port at 18:30, returning at around 21:20. Details in Japanese online here.

If you are in Hiroshima on the 14th,you shouldn't miss the festival!!!!!!!!

For those relying on the train, a good tip for the return trip on the way back to Hiroshima is to take the first train heading in the opoosite direction (Iwakuni bound) one stop so you can grab a seat on the next Hiroshima bound train.

July 28th (wed) KANGENSAI @ Istukushima shurine

This, the largest festival at Miyajima's Itsukushima Shrine and one of Japan's biggest Shinto rituals performed on boats.
It is supposedly based on an pastime of the people of the court and aristocrats of the Nara and Heian periods, who enjoyed themselves while floating on boats in the pond and playing wind and stringed instruments.
At the festival, beautifully decorated boats sail across the sea playing three wind instruments, three stringed instruments and three drums, replicating a scene from a Heian picture scroll.

This festival is as know as one of the wonderful festival of Miyajima.
You shouldn't miss this during your stay in Hiroshima!!!
