A fire torch is carried from the Shrine and all of the individual pine troches are lit. The larger pine troches are carried by 30-40 men on their shoulder's, while children carry smaller ones. As the troches intensely burn the coastline become a combination of fire and water as the people run about chanting "Yoi, Yoi."

It is getting colder and colder here in Japan. Summer is completely over...
Speaking of autumn, there is a one of my favourite festival is held in Nov.

"EBISU FESTIVAL"

Ebisu Shrine’s autumn festival marks the arrival of winter in Hiroshima. Known among locals as Ebbesan after the god of commerce, surrounding stores hold sales and buy Komazadare bamboo rakes adorned with gold coins and a treasure ship. You might here business owners complain that the whole thing is a racket, but you won’t see a shop, restaurant or bar in the area without one. A large keg with mouth wide open is placed in front of the shrine to receive offerings.

The festival usually pulls in around 300,000 people.
Usually on one day the main Chuo-dori road is closed to traffic for 3 hours between 7pm and 10pm and addition to all the stalls and activity arund Ebisu Shrine there are two stages set up, one at the Ebisu-dori intersection and another at the Shintenchi intersection where Kagura dance andTaiko drum performances are held.

Hello this is Kana from Hitoshima Hana Hostel.
Its been really hot last few weeks and can not go out during day time...Addicted to Air conditioner now..

By the way have you heard of KABUKI before?
Kabuki (歌舞伎) is a traditional Japanese form of theater with roots tracing back to the Edo period. It is recognized as one of Japan's three major classical theaters.

Also Kabuki is an art form rich in showmanship. It involves elaborately designed costumes, eye-catching make-up, outlandish wigs, and arguably most importantly, the exaggerated actions performed by the actors.

Don`t you want to see that performance while in Hiroshima?

A chance to see the nocturnal animals in action and to escape to the relative cool of the Asa highlands. The “night safari” is only held 8 nights a year, and it is always popular
with families and dating couples.
There is plenty of debate as to just how bad a zoo Asa Zoo is.
It seems to us that
although the confined spaces in which many of the animals are kept (especially the big cats)
are disgraceful, on the whole, as zoos go, the conditions are relatively good.
Hopefully some of the obvious delight of the kids that visit will translate into long term conservationist
thinking and a respect for animals.
On August 26 there are 60 minute performances at 18:00 and 19:30.
The zoo is open until 21:00 (final admission at 20:30).
Shuttle bus between Kamiyasu Astram Station and Asa Zoo every 10-20 minutes.

Fireworks are a true symbol of summer in Japan. Japanese fireworks feature bright colors and beautiful shapes when bursting overhead.

In Hiroshima, Hiroshima Port Dream Fireworks Festival is held in July, when approximately 10,000 fireworks are set off. Various types of fireworks can be enjoyed, including lovely katamono (pattern-shaped) fireworks, such as squids, crabs, octopus and fish, and offshore Starmine fireworks, which form fan shapes like peacocks spreading their wings.
The fireworks are displayed against the ocean and mountains in a refreshing sea breeze and the salt tang of the sea. Enjoy the “fantastic story” unfolded on a stage unique to Hiroshima, which is located along the Seto Inland Sea.

There are also traditional stage performances of Fukuyama, a handmade goods bazaar, a gourmet plaza and a sales corner featuring Hiroshima’s specialty products. ゚・:*Hiroshima Flower Festival゚・:*

Time: 2013 May 3rd, 4th, 5th12:00~19:00
Place: Peace Boulevard, Peace Memorial Park (South of the city centre)

The Hiroshima Flower Festival started in 1977 and this year will be the 37th festival since it started.
The festival is known as the biggest event in Hiroshima!! You should not miss it!!

☆Let's transform Hiroshima into a city full of music, greenery and flowers.
☆Let's share the greatness and preciousness of living in peace with everyone!
☆Let's export warm human relationships and rich life culture from Hiroshima to the world.

These 3 ideas have been the main themes of the flower festival, for 35years since it began 1977. The festival for the anniversary of the Atomic Bomb dropping onthe 6th of August recognises "stillness" as it's theme. To co-ordinate with this the flower festival, celebrated in the the warmth of may when the town is bathed in green, call itsself the "energetic movement" festival.

The festival consists of 3 main parts parades, stages,  and street venders!

1.6 million people come to celebrate the festival annually. In recent years, the festival has taken place not only during the day, but continued into the night with paper crane monuments and peace candles. This year, there will also be various concerts and traditional Japanese dance (Kagura) performances to enjoy!!

I used to go Flower Festival every year with my grandparents! A lot of fun and excitement!! Only 20minutesfrom Hiroshima Hana Hostel to the peace park by tram!

Ben Folds Five is an alternative rock trio formed in 1993 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The group comprises Ben Folds (lead vocals, piano, keyboards, melodica, principal songwriting), Robert Sledge (bass, contrabass, synthesizer, backing vocals), and Darren Jessee(drums, percussion, backing vocals, songwriter, and co-writer for some songs). The group achieved mainstream success in the alternative, indie and pop music scenes. The band is best known for the hit single "Brick" from their 1997 album Whatever and Ever Amen, which gained airplay on many mainstream radio stations. During their seven years together, the band released three proper studio records, oneretrospective album of B-sides and outtakes, and eight singles. They also contributed to a number of soundtracks and compilations. Ben Folds Five disbanded in October 2000, apparently under amicable circumstances.
