It is freezing here in Hiroshima much more than last year. I can't stand for it any more already...missimg you, Summer...

Do you like OYSTER??? Oyster in Hiroshima is really famous in Japan. The best season for it is  in winter. So even though I do not really like winter, I can't wait  winter to have the oyster.
I strongly recommend one place for oyster lovers like me.

KAKIGOYA(Oyster house) is opened for only winter season.
From: 2014/Oct 18th ~ not yet determined
Time:10:30am-21:00

It is located in Ujina area which is about 30minutes by tram from Hiroshima station.

At first, you need to pick up what you want. Oyster comes like this. So you can choose! Find big one!

There are many variety of sea foods, not only oyster!!
Such as Scallop, turban shell, prawn, eel and so on.

The best part is you can cook yourself!! It is great fun.

I went there 3 of us, and spent about 2000yen each and made us full and not feel like eating oyster for a while even I love it.
Please enjoy the best Oyster in Hiroshima!! You should NOT miss this opportunity!!

Autumn leaves in Miyajima

Hello, this is Tomomi from Hiroshima Hana.

These days, it is getting cold in the night and in the morning…summer is over.

However, that means that the best season to visit Miyajima is coming soon!

Miyajima is famous for its autumn leaves. They will start turning red and yellow from November and the best period to experience that is from the middle to the end of November.

For the best pictures of the colorful leaves we recommend Momijidani Park. The Park is stretching along the Momijidani river near the valley at the foot of Mount Misen. There are around 200 trees waiting for you (about 20 min by foot from the Miyajima ferry port).

Enjoy the beautiful autumn colors in Miyajima!

Tanomo-san

Tanomo-san

If you plan to visit Miyajima (Island) on the 25th of August, we would recommend to go there in the evening:

On Aug 25th, you will see many Miyajima islanders carring their Tanomo boats. These boats will be
purified at Momiji dani and then released to float on the sea. This custom is performed to ensure a good harvest.

It will be a beautiful and interesting event. You should not miss it!

Date: Aug 25th. 2014
Place: Shinomiya Shrine (Momijidani Park) - Itsukushima Shrine
Time:from 8PM

Origin
It used to be the common belief in Miyajima that the whole island was holy, and that the cultivation of the land was not allowed. There was a strict prohibition of agriculture, industry, weaving by machine, and putting the ‘Oinari’ Fox statue on the island. After the Meiji restoration, islanders lived by forestry, harvesting and carving the wood to make souvenirs, marketing them to earn a living. Islanders had very strong feelings of gratitude toward the agricultural products, even beyond our imagination. They built the Tanomo boat to express their feelings and put in dumpling dolls (rice balls coated with sweet red bean paste), fruits, and other offerings, then let the boats float across the water to Oinari in Ono cho where some agricultural products were grown. The feelings were mutual ever since, and this has been the folk custom of Minami Machi.
